The innovative new solution to reduce the cost of electrification infrastructure, brought to you by Bonomi and PACE Networks
At the start of CP6, the challenge for the electrification industry is clear. We must electrify lines at a much lower cost. And while some good news is already coming in from projects in progress, and we see exciting developments like the Cardiff Intersection Bridge innovation, there is still much work to do.
One high cost in electrifying lines and in maintaining those lines is possessions. As more of society travels than ever before, passenger numbers are rising, and that puts pressure on the already small windows for working on the railway. Omnia was created in 2008 to address this modern rail environment and to utilise advanced manufacturing techniques.
Key Advantages of Omnia Include:
Faster to assemble & install
Easily adjustable for maintenance
Fewer tools required
Corrosion resistant materials throughout
Fewer points of failure with only 11 components
Factory quality control & traceability
Less time working at height
Lighter product for linesmen
PR value from reduced visual impact
The new Omnia Twin Track Cantilever builds on those basic qualities and combines a pair of the approved Station Platform Omnia Cantilevers to cover 2 tracks from a single mast. Thanks to the high strength nature of the horizontal Omnia beam, the Omnia TTC can achieve a reach of up to 8.5 metres.
Thanks to the simplicity at the heart of the Omnia design, there are a number of savings to come from this latest Omnia evolution:
Material savings of circa £3,000 per location compared to a steel lattice TTC
Possession cost savings – installing a mast rather than a lattice TTC
Savings from reduced plant requirements
Less labour required thanks to faster installation
Reduced weight loading on TTC foundation
Faster installation means earlier project finish
Material savings of £1,500 per location compared to 2 single cantilever masts
In summary, this development of the Omnia cantilever offers real savings for electrifying lines, in materials, time and plant. It also offers savings in maintenance, with its wide adjustment range of 750mm; and common spares with the Omnia cantilever. Initial discussions with contractors suggest that the overall saving could typically be £10,000 to £15,000 per location.
